Summer in Switzerland

Yes, I am still alive and I'm sorry that I haven't wrote that much since I started working in Switzerland half year ago. The job itself is challenging and there is a lot to do. That's probably why I couldn't write that much in my BLOG. ;-)

No, the main reason is, that I have been busy all weekends since begin of summer. First, the european football championship in Switzerland and Austria. I've enjoyed visiting the public viewing areas in Langenthal and Basel. At home, we watched the matches with my Italian colleagues and our Chinese visitor. Sadly, the Italians were thrown out after first round ;-) Anyway, the best was the half final between Germany and Turkey, which I've seen at a public viewing area in Basel. The following pictures give a small hint of the atmosphere. The lost final wasn't that bad after all, if you've seen the half final ;-)









The following weekends were planned ahead. There was a meeting with my old working group from Jülich in Karlsruhe, which was fantastic: the old guys, the discussion, Karlsruhe itself and the Black Forest. The week after I visited the Gurten Festival on the Gurten hill near Bern with a really amazing view. You wake up in the morning, you open your tent and you see Bern on your left and snowy mountains on your right. After Gurten, a friend, I met in Australia, visited me on his way back from Italy. With one of my Italian colleagues we went together to the Pilatus mountain and hiked from bottom (435m) to top (2132m), which took us four hours. The good thing was that we could take the train (the world's steepest cogwheel railway) back, otherwise...

Currently, I'm sitting in an ICE train to Basel, which arrives at Freiburg at the moment. I visited my mother in Northern Germany and I'm on my way back to Roggwil. A long distance, but what is a long distance after traveling around Australia?

And the good thing is that I will travel next weekend again :-)

Kramgasse 49

From 1903 till 1905 Einstein and his wife Mileva had lived at that address in Bern. There, in 1905, the annus mirabilis, Einstein wrote his five important theses. Today their flat is open to the public and I made a visit to it today. If you walk through the historic city center of Bern, everybody will get inspired (not only Einstein ;-). I can hardly describe the feeling. Better you look at the following picture, which shows the city center from top of the Munster (more pictures to follow on my web page).


At work everything is fine. The first week I've been inducted into the grinding of tools. You can't imagine how many parameters you need, to create a cutter or even a drill. Last week, I've started programming - a small project for the beginning.

I also got used to the swiss life. Almost all shops are closed during noontime and they close at 6.30pm. So you have to plan things more exactly and in advance. Another example, which comes to my mind right now, are the trains. On the other day the train was a bit late - three minutes, and that delay was shown on the departure panel.

Switzerland

I've decided to write my BLOG in English from now on. So I avoid to take care of an English and German version at the same time. I hope everybody is fine with that?

What happened so far? I got a job in Switzerland. I'll start working as Software Engineer on 1 February. The company's name is Schneeberger and is producing CNC-machines. I'm really looking forward to it.

I've published some "best of OZ" pictures on my website and also an album of pictures I made on 21 December.

Of course, I'll continue this BLOG from Switzerland ;-) and will let you know all the things that'll happen to me.

Vor einem Jahr...

...bin ich um diese Zeit auf Entdeckungsreise durch Sydney gewesen. Nun bin ich wieder in Deutschland und genieße die Weihnachtszeit und suche nach einen Job.

Was habe ich bisher in Deutschland gemacht? Zuallererst ankommen. Die Uhren ticken doch etwas anders. Ich habe Freunde getroffen, erfahren, was sie letztes Jahr über erlebt haben, meine Bilder gezeigt, selbst erzählt, wie Australien war.

Und dann wollte ich eigentlich ein Video mit all meinen Bildern und kleinen Videos erstellen. Nur mein Laptop wollte nicht mehr. Er ging einfach aus. Jede Wiederbelebungsmaßnahme schlug fehl (drei Operationen). Das war am 30. November. Vielleicht hat er das deutsche Stromnetz nicht mehr gemocht. ;-) In Australien hat er selbst auf Dirt Roads im Van gut durchgehalten:



Neija, nach vier Jahren wird es Zeit für einen neuen. Meinen BLOG werde ich natürlich weiter führen und euch auf den Laufenden halten.

Die letzte Nacht in Australien

Ich kann es kaum glauben, die letzte Nacht in Australien ist angebrochen. Morgen Abend 19:50 Uhr geht mein Flieger von Sydney nach Dubai. Am Donnerstag werde ich 12:45 Uhr in Frankfurt ankommen.

In den letzten Monaten habe ich sehr viel erleben dürfen: Beginnend in Sydney mit Weihnachten und Silvester, dann die Erntearbeit in Griffith um Geld zu verdienen. Über Adelaide ging es weiter mit dem Zug nach Perth, beziehungsweise Fremantle. Dort verbrachte ich den Spätsommer mit einem Monat Haus-Sitting. Mit Mars und Sarah bin ich dann im Van die Westküste entlang nach Darwin gefahren. Dort habe ich dann "überwintert", unterbrochen von einem Monat als Bäcker in Wadeye arbeitend. Auf dem Weg nach Melbourne habe ich Alice Springs und den Finke Gorge Nationalpark besucht. Von Melbourne flog ich weiter nach Neuseeland, wo ich den Frühling und grüne Natur einen Monat lang erlebte.

Es ist schwer zu sagen, was mir von meiner Reise am besten gefallen hat. Jeder Teil hatte etwas besonderes. Vor allem haben die Freunde, mit denen ich entweder gereist bin oder die ich kennen gelernt habe, die verschiedenen Orte zu dem gemacht, in der ich diese in Erinnerung behalten werde.

Auf Wiedersehen Australien

Noch vier Tage...

...dann geht mein Flieger zurück. In Sydney bereitet man sich derweil auf die neue Touristensaison vor. Es ist noch relativ ruhig und man kann gemütlich alle Attraktionen besichtigen, was ich gestern noch einmal getan habe. Mal sehn, was sich heute so ergibt.

Als ich von Alice Springs nach Melbourne und weiter nach Christchurch gereist bin, habe ich Dracula von Bram Stoker gelesen. Dieses Buch und viele andere Bücher englischer Autoren gibt es bei literature.org zum Lesen. Im Buchladen hier wollte ich mir schon immer so ein "Klassiker" kaufen und nun finde ich diese im Internet. :-)

Zurück in Australien

Woran merkt man, dass man wieder zurück in Australien ist? Alle Leute sind so fröhlich, jeder winkt einen auf der Straße zu. ;-) Nein, an den Fliegen liegt das bestimmt nicht.

Mein Flug war auch in Ordnung, obwohl mit Verspätung und mit Air New Zealand, statt der argentinischen Fluggesellschaft. Mal schauen, was ich morgen machen werde. Lasst euch überraschen.
